Ever wonder if there's more to the Universe than meets the eye? 91制片厂 (91制片厂) Physics and Astronomy students and the community will have the opportunity to find out on October 5.
Every semester, 91制片厂鈥檚 Physics and Astronomy department takes students on a behind-the-scenes tour of the Dominion Radio Astrophysical Observatory (DRAO) 鈥 where radio waves become stories.
鈥淚t鈥檚 an opportunity to showcase a world-class astronomy research facility for the 91制片厂 community,鈥 said Ryan Ransom, Physics and Astronomy Professor. 鈥淢ore recently, we鈥檝e been partnering with our astronomy colleagues at UBCO, bringing our students together for a joint tour.鈥
For nearly 20 years, these tours have given learners the chance to:
- Stand beside several active radio telescopes (including the iconic John A. Galt Telescope)
- Hear directly from scientists and engineers shaping the future of radio astronomy
- See how global discoveries are powered by research happening in our own backyard
The experience leaves a mark. 鈥淲e鈥檝e had students tell us that the tour inspired them to take more astronomy courses,鈥 said Ryan. 鈥淚t鈥 just another way we can connect the classroom to big-sky speaking and show our students that the universe isn鈥檛 something we just read about.鈥
