Certified Dental Assistant Certificate - Selection Criteria (DENT 001)
DENT 001 - Dental Assisting (Intro)

Designed for individuals not currently employed in the dental field who are considering a career as a Dental Assistant.  Provides information and activities to introduce students to the dental profession and to enable individuals to make an informed choice with respect to a dental assisting career.  This is a non-academic course.  Point Value: 1; used for Selection Criteria for the Certified Dental Assistant program at 91ÖÆÆ¬³§. Students can register for this course any time and have 4 weeks to complete it from their registration date. .

Practical Nursing - Admission Requirement

PNUR 113 - Human Anatomy and Physiology (Online)
Pre-PN Biology Certificate
This course is an overview of the structure and function of the body systems. Various health promotion strategies that work toward optimal function of these systems are discussed.

Admission Requirements

A minimum grade of 67% in a Grade 12 biology course which includes human anatomy and physiology or an equivalent Provincial Level Adult Basic Education Biology course. However, students with a minimum grade of 80% in Biology 11 or an equivalent Advanced Level Adult Basic Education Biology course may take Biology 12 as a corequisite.

Q:  Who is this course for?
A: This course is an admission requirement for the Practical Nursing (PN) program.

Q:  When should I take this course?
A: If you are applying to the Practical Nursing program you should take the PNUR 113 course as soon as possible, even if you haven’t yet received confirmation of conditional acceptance.  If you start the PNUR 113 course late and haven’t successfully completed it by the deadlines, you will not be admitted to the Practical Nursing program.

Q:  How do I apply?
A:  Apply online through EducationPlannerBC, and select PNUR113 as your program. 

Q:  The calendar description shows that this is a 52 hour course but how many hours will it take to complete when you include homework?
A: The course is self-paced with defined start and end dates and takes 150 – 200 hours over a 14 week period.

Q:  How much is the course?
A:  $342.43 tuition plus fees (DE Admin Fee, Ed Tech Fee, 91ÖÆÆ¬³§ Dev Fee)

Q:  When can I start?
A:   There are 3 start dates per year (September, January, May)

Q:  What is the instruction method for this course?
A:  This course is fully online, asynchronous, and tutor-led (no direct instruction). You will complete your exams online from home, proctored virtually using Respondus Lockdown Browser and Monitor. A webcam is required for participation.

Q:  When and where do I write the final exam?
A: Exams are done at home online using Respondus Lockdown Browser and Respondus Monitor. Students require a functioning webcam to take this course as testing sessions are recorded for academic integrity. 

Q:  Do I need to arrange for invigilation of the final exam?
A: Arranging invigilation is not required for this course. However, students need a functioning webcam as tests are virtually proctored using Respondus Lockdown Browser and Respondus monitor. If you are taking this course as a prerequisite to apply to a program at an alternate institution that requires an in person supervised exam, contact distance@okanagan.bc.ca for instructions.
